Local Interests
Boulder Creek is located just minutes from many areas of interest. We are just 1 1/2 miles south of Lake Diaz, were people like to fish and ride watercraft. 2 1/2 miles North of BCRV is Mt. Whitney Golf Course. An unbelievable 9 hole course that plays 18, with tricky greens that are small and fast. If it is off roading you like, there are hundreds of places to go, both long and short treks. Mountain bike in the famous Alabama Hills, possibly one of the best movie locations of all time. 13 miles west is the Whitney portals and the trailhead to one of most breath taking peaks in the world. Opening soon is the Eastern Sierra's Film Festival Museum, its going to be awesome. If you can't spend a couple of days taking in what this area has to offer, you shouldn't be traveling.

Film History Museum
Beverly and Jim Rogers Museum of Lone Pine Film History - Come enjoy the activities of Hollywood here particularly in the early years. Langley's regular columns in The Inyo Register have described this early history, pushing the date of the beginning of filming back to 1915 in the area and uncovering additional films that filmed scenes here before 1920. Inside three full-scale resin horses, lifelike in detail, have been added to the exhibit area. They will be used to display silver parade saddles that have been loaned from the James E. Rogers collection. Since the dedication on June 17th, six framed three sheets; a large six sheet and other posters from the Rogers collection have also been mounted in the lobby area. The theater will have showings of the museum aorientation film, and real west movie screenings for locals and visitors alike.

Ghost Towns
Ghost Towns - Perched at 8500' in the Inyo Mountains above the Owens Lake, Cerro Gordo is the most well preserved ghost towns in California. The town blossomed to a population of 4800 hearty souls after the discovery of silver in 1868. Cerro Gordo was a wild town, with countless bars and businesses politely known as "Dance Halls". As legend has it, some civic-minded citizens attempted to divert the miners from their usual recreation by involving them in the Cerro Gordo Social Union, a debating society. For a few weeks the experiment succeeded, but when the novelty wore off, the dance halls and saloons were back in business. The mine ultimately produced 4.5 million ounces from a hole 1150' deep with 7 levels of tunnels, totaling 37 miles. Wagon trains delivered sliver to Los Angeles, effectively supporting and feeding what was then a struggling coastal pueblo of fewer than 4,000 residents.
The townsite, closed to collectors for nearly two decades, is also the perfect locale for rock and mineral collectors. The site features several hundred thousand tons of dump materials from the main mine workings.

Alabama Hills, Mt. Whitney
Alabama Hills, Mt. Whitney, Lone Pine Peak and Movie Road - The Alabama Hills is a unique and wicked desert area in Owens Valley near the town of Lone Pine. It is known to the world as a popular movie location with a long, rich history of films shot there. It is also know to many mountain climbers, mountain bikers, fishermen and hang gliders. It looks out of this world with desert vegetation and patinated rounded boulders scattered over the area, and a massive backdrop of Eastern Sierra Nevada peaks rising nearly eleven thousand feet from the valley floor. It is also known for its proximity to the highest point of the lower 48 states, Mount Whitney.
Movie Road where the magic begins. Turn west at the stoplight in Lone Pine and drive 2.8 miles west to Movie Road. There is a sign at the intersection and a bronze plaque that was dedicated by Roy Rogers, commemorating all the western movies made in these hills. As you drive north along the unpaved Movie Road, youll see a network of dirt roads leading out into the desert and winding around all the formations. Follow any of these roads and youll find some fascinating subjects for your camera. If you enjoy photographing rock patterns and are interested in geology, this is the place for you.
Many of these roads were laid out and graded to accommodate stagecoaches being pulled by teams of horses. Many western movies and television shows were made here in the Alabama Hills. Although there is little evidence of any movie sets remaining, the back roads are still smooth and easily driven by most vehicles. A 4x4 helps when you want to cross a deep and sandy wash or climb a steep road to the top of a viewpoint.

Mt. Whitney Golf Club
Mt. Whitney Golf Club - This course is located in a beautiful area at the base of the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains. Scoring well on the course is difficult because of the very small and undulating greens. There are a couple ponds, but they generally don't come into play. The terrain is basically flat, but there are a few elevated areas on a couple of holes. Well-positioned sand bunkers surround every green. The most difficult hole is #5, a 220-yard, par 3, requiring an uphill tee shot to a green with two bunkers guarding its front. If you want to play eighteen holes, the green fees for the second nine is slightly more on weekdays and an additional small charge on weekends. Juniors and seniors receive a discounts when playing either nine or eighteen holes. There is an additional ladies' tee that can be used when playing an eighteen round.
